Attorney General Cases
This may come as news to both custodial parents (CP) and non-custodial parents (NCP): The Texas Office of the Attorney General (OAG) DOES NOT represent you. The OAG represents the interests of the State of Texas in matters concerning the establishment of Paternity and the setting, collection, and enforcement of Child Support.
The OAG performs these services to insure that the NCP financially supports his or her children so that neither the State of Texas nor the Federal Government has to do so.
If you are a NCP and are sued to establish paternity or to have child support set, or because you are behind in child support, please feel free to give us a call.
Improperly representing yourself in these matters can result in your being found in contempt of court and jailed for up to 6 months or longer. Equally bad is the possibility that you could pay prohibitive amounts of child support long after the child turns 18 or lose your driver’s license or both.
It doesn’t matter how intelligent you are. Everyone else involved in your case is either a judge, a lawyer, or an AG caseworker. They do this job everyday and they are not on your side.
